Heirs serve as trusted advisors, holding both a voice and the ear of the Grand Matriarch™, who serves for life or until retirement. In the event of retirement, the Grand Matriarch™ retains the title and continues as a member of the Board of Directors (Executive).

This title is awarded annually by the Grand Matriarch™ as part of the anniversary celebrations of IDQ&F and CDQ&F. As many are aware, there is no election process involved. Instead, the title is conferred in recognition and respect for individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the community.

The title carries no formal duties or responsibilities. It serves solely to honour the importance and impact of an individual’s work within the LGBTQ2++ communities over the years.
​
Recipients are selected by the Grand Matriarch™ following consultation with the IDQ&F Heirs.
